well i was out of town for the weekend and i had a minor water spill, one of my water returns started leaking all over my Gen X pump and shorted it out. i don't know whether if it can be fixed or not, but i'll probably try to call the manufacture and give it a try. in the mean time i need a replacement so i just wanted to see any opinnions about pump preferences. i wasn't too happy with the Gen X pump anyway the fan motor was kind of lound and i want something with more GPH. thinking of getting the dolphin 3000, but the cheapest i've seen it for is $260.00. also coinsidering a mag-drive 3600. both seem to be very efficient. anybody have other suggestions or know of any good used pumps you're trying to get rid of.

Mag 3600=too much electricity
Cheap now=you'll pay later for being a cheapskate.
Run Internally the Mag 3600 might be too hot (think of it as an extra 254 Wats to 360 Watts heater, being on all the time.)
Run Externally, it might make some noise.

Japanese Iwaki is a good tried and true name. Get the Ampmaster like Chris have if you want to be experimental with newer equipment.
You forgot to ask about the Rio pump.

Seems the AM3K is a bit more expensive now than when I got mine. It was $255 from Premium Aquatics a while back when I bought it... $287 there now.
$260 isn't a bad deal. The AM3K will only run about 115 watts continuously after startup. I think at startup it pulls close to 240Watts. It's not very loud either... I got to run mine earlier this evening for the first time. 8)

There's some rumor going around. Have you contact AM3K to get a new pump seal from them?

Yeah i've seen the talk about it. Some people have had problems with the seal leaking eventually. Most of those people didn't have the problem til after a year or so. I haven't contacted them about the replacement yet. I'm sure the newer ones don't have that problem.

Ray,
How many tanks is this sump running? I don't like to have high GPH going through the sump anymore. High water pump = noisy sump = too much microbubbles to baffle off.
------------
The sump pump for my 120 gallons tank pump out about 500 GPH hour. I would like it to be around 1000 GPH, but that would entail changing up the plumbing. The low GPH is working fine for me right now. If you must need more water current in your main tank, do it through the Tunze Stream or similar pump. No point in draining down more water then your skimmer can handle.
