Anyone had any problems with power outages? Ever... or during storms?

What do you think about using a UPS backup for important thinks like water movement or supplying air to the tank?

Does anyone currently use one?

Anyone thinking about getting a generator?

DSB+Long Power Outage=Quickly depleting oxygen level=dead fishes. One of the downside to a DSB tank.

UPS are OK, they just don't last long. They are expensive to buy. The battery have to be replaced eventually, and they're expensive too. I have a dead UPS right now. Not sure what to do with it.

Generator is just expensive, and a bit impractical to apply. You might try rigging up a marine battery for backup.

The only backup I have is some battery operated airpump.

The important during power outage is to maintain oxygen level in the tank, and maintain the heat(wrap your tank up during cold weather.)

Perhaps I have been lucky.
Power here in San Antonio has never been knocked out longer than a few hours in the twenty plus years I have been here. Do I have a back up plan? No.

I have a backup plan for you. Buy a paddle so you can stir your tank while the power is out. Ever see a human surge device? ;0)

There was a period several years ago when the power in NB & SM were out for several days. Cold shower in the dark, and eating out for several days. My excuse for missing my Accounting & Biology exams was because the alarm didn't go off.

Depending on your fish load, you might want use the UPS with an airpump or Powerhead instead. That will extend you some more time.

I've had the power out for about 6 hours here in Austin and no problems. Don't forget most of this stuff is shipped in bags for days and does just fine.
