I decided to start a new thread for my experience. As mentioned in the previous thread, I had gotten a bad case of red planarians which have always been hit and miss when it comes to how to get rid of them. It had gotten to where I had to clean them off the glass daily and some of my life rock was covered with them. Yesterday evening, I used Quinsulex as others had posted success with it. The instructions suggest using 1 capsule for every 10 net gallons for freshwater tanks and double for marine. I have a 58 gallon tank with a 29 gallon sump. I used 2 capsules to be on the safe side. In just a few hours the planarians were dissappearing. I was excited!
BUT, this morning I awoke to find many of my margarita snails dead or dying, both my tiger cucumbers shrunken up and slow moving, and my bulb anemone was shriveled up. I hoped for the best and could live with a few dead snails so I headed to work. When I got home, I found that both my cukes were dead, my new $50 flame angel was dead and my favorite midas blenny has dissappeared (I assume he died and has been eaten by hermits and my sea serpant) :cry2: . The bulb anemone has opened up all the way, but is inactive. My two starfish and peppermint shrimp seemed to have survived along with my clowns my blue tang (although he is now in hiding).
Tonight I am running carbon to hopefully remove the Quinsulex and I am going to do a water change as well.
Basically I am posting this so that others with flat worms/planarians looking for a cure will have more info to go on. I think this stuff works very well, but looking back, I would suggest putting your more delicate critters in a quarantine tank before using it.
