My friend just did a huge order of the 3/4 and 1 inch sea swirls. He does set up, maint. and has a small self-run store. He only makes these orders once or twice a year, when he has enough to make it well worth it. I did not ask him how many he ordered, he just said "a ****-load". He had 2 3/4 and 1 1 inch left, and I took the 2 3/4 and a friend took the large one for future use. He will be bringing them at Thanksgiving. Hopefully, we are going to fix my system to reduce the heat problem and the remaining noise. That depends on how much time he can get away from the in-laws, though. The 3/4 ended up being $111.38 after shipping and handling were added in. The larger was close to $125. So he must have done a much larger order than we can get together. I will ask him the quantity he ordered to get the price when I chat with him next.

I just installed a sump with a Lifereef overflow on my 58. Unfortunately, I'm all out of money for awhile, otherwise I would love to put two 3/4in. sea swirls on the tank instead of the returns I have now. Maybe later down the road.

Chris, your on a Mag 12 right? IF you're cash strapped, you might try one 1 inch SS, or two 1/2 inch SS.

Hi;
I'm interested in one of these. Does anyone in San Antonio currently have one up and running that I might have a look at? Or, maybe someone with some experience could answer a question or two. One, I'm running a mag 7 on my 45 gallon reef. I've been using a 3/4" return hose, trying to keep the flow from constricting. Even though the mag has a 1/2" outlet, I found that using 1/2" tubing slowed things down a bit at the elbows, and at junctions; for example, the hose barbs for 1/2" flex hose have a smaller I.D. , etc. So, the question would be whether to spring for the 3/4" sea swirl, or go back to 1/2" tubing to save a few bucks, hoping that the sea swirl would not constrict flow as much as the 1/2" elbows and fittings.
Another question with this order is warranty service. I've had great experiences with premium aquatics; my first mag 7 fritzed after a few months, and they had a new one to my door, shipped free, almost immediately. The prices I've been seeing on this thread are lower, but would we be able to get quick warranty replacement should it be necessary?
Assuming I can get these questions worked out, I'll be in for either a 1/2" or 3/4".
Thanks,
Matt

Do they have an anti-syphoning system in case of power failure ?

Did anyone ever order any? I am interested in putting 2 3/4in. sea swirls on my tank sometime in the near future. Misty - can you still get any from your friend? At that price, I would be very interested.
Thanks,
Chris

I buy all my hardware thru Premium Aquatics. They also buy in large amounts. Seaswirls at wholesale prices thru them are as follows:
1/2 $99.95
3/4 $124.95
1 $144.95
There is not a min. order. And maybe on a larger order there maybe more of a disount????
Jim
P.S.
I have two 3/4 Sea swirls on my tank and love them. One is powered by a mag 18 from my sump. The other is poered by a Rio 2100 on a closed loop system.

Sounds like you are moving a lot of water through there. Currently I have a 58gallon tank with a Mag12 on the return from my sump. The return line splits at the pump and goes to each corner of the tank where it splits again using lockline. I was thinking of using 2 3/4in sea swirls, but from the way you have your tank setup, I'm wondering if that will be overkill on my mag12 and I could just use 1/2in. sea swirls instead? I am hoping to upgrade to a 75gallon tank I currently have sitting in my garage and will probably have to upgrade return pumps and skimmer of course. If I do that I guess the 3/4in. would probably be better. What do you think from your experience?
Thanks for the help!

Chris,
The mag 18 is being supplied by a dual J tube hang on overflow. The mag 18 sits in the sump and then pumps to the Seaswirl which is about 6 feet. Yes I like water movement! In the tank I also have 8 maxijet 1200s set to 2 Wavemasters. Then I have the other Seaswirl hooked up to a Rio2100 on a close loop system. And then---I have afew?? other Rio 2500s placed in many locations. If (Ihope) when you come over you can see this and then together we can figure your system out to get the max out of it!

If you can afford it, use two 3/4 inch SS. Other wise, two 1/2 inch will work ok. One 1/2 SS will not be able to handle your Mag 12. You'll likely ruin the SS and void your warranty if you run it only one 1/2 on a Mag 12. When you run only one 1/2 SS with your Mag 12, you'll run into compression problem and cause the SS to leak internally.

WOW! That is a lot of circulation! How big is this tank?
I am using a hang-on dual overflow from Lifereef and I know the overflow could handle a larger pump as the overflow is noisy. I am just afraid of blowing the sand and livestock all over the place! I will be attending the meeting next month at your place and look forward to it. I would enjoy talking with you and getting some ideas on how to better setup my tank (possibly the 75). I still need to figure out whether I am going to drill the tank or just stick to the Lifereef. I also need to find a better skimmer to handle the 75gallon along with more sand to help with the larger sandbed. Keep in mind also, I have to be careful on the spending!
Thanks again!

I thought about one of these. My old pump died and I bought a new eheim 1060 to replace it. Duh what wasI thinking its 600gph and I ahve a 300gph overflow. I have been throttling it back on the ball valve on return line but it's still way too much in my 46 - trying to rig up a spraybar to diffuse flow on return. Anyone have a 350 or so GPH pump lying around for sale or a larger overflow?

If your pump died, have you try to just replace or clean the impeller?
I have an overflow that does 600 GPH. You need a pump that can max that out.

It's barely used for $28. I'm not including the two (1 1/4 inch pools tubings.) You'll have to see if a pool supply store have it or not (check out the pool supply store next to CompUSA on 183/Research.)

Vinh, for 30 buck's I'll take it. I liked mine till I kept losing siphon it (cpr overflow sucks). This will let me run pump full bore and not wear it out. I have everything plumbed now with 3/4" schedule 40 pvc. Not crazy about flex tubing, I'll see if I can retrofit something. Let me know when I can swing by and pick it up.
Edit: Old pump was a Rio that melted and insides looked something like peanut brittle but didnt look as appetizing - I tossed that POS.

I'm home on Wednesday after 3 p.m. Or Brett Wilson from North Austin might come down this weekend (he's not sure.) You might be able to ask him to pick up the overflow for you. You guys live close together enough. I'll let you borrow the flex tubings for a few weeks until you figure out how to redo it. The thing abou the swimming pools hose is that they can get dirty quick. You should only use the blue swimming pools hose. Don't use the black vacuum hose.
You can reorder the hose from Marineland if need to. Sometime their hose is not long enough for tall stand, so they might send out the extension.
Your Eheim pump might not be strong enough for this SOS. In either case, I'll show you how to rig it up, so that the SOS, or CPR won't stop working.

I do not have a overheating problem with all the pumps (with refu. the system is about 300 gallons). It's the six 400 watt MHs and four 65 watt PCs that heat up the water alittle!!!!

Sorry to hijack thread. Vinh if anything the Eheim is conservatively rated. I'd like to get a bigger overflow and throttle the flow coming in rather than wearing it out the pump throtling it back. The problem I see with the flex tubing is it would be hard to mount a valve on it? Also this is the model with 2 drains? I may just get a smaller mag pump for the return and move the eheim to my 75 gallon it could use a little more flow on the return. You have any 300ish gph at 3' head pumps laying around for sale?
In retrospect I should have just saved my money and gotten a lifereef like I planned to originally. I will never have a non drilled tank again in the future if I can help it.
Vinh - I'll see if I can get by today. I have a class early this afternoon I should make a token appearance at. If next week Monday or Tuesday is better or tomorrow or friday before 3pm.
