for everyone that's not familiar with the different standpipes, and wants to learn how to reduce the noise in your reef ready tanks here's the website to the durso standpipe method. they're really easy to make and you can finally get rid of the niagra falls noise in your living room.

After ten years of having a sump/overflow, I added one of these about three months ago. The difference is simply stunning. $8 worth of PVC completely eliminated ALL water based noise in my tank. The loudest thing is now the hum from my pump, and you have to pay attention to hear that.
This device scored a 10 on my WPS (Wife Pacification Scale).

There's also the stockman mod which can be used if your overflow doesn't have much room for the Durso mod.

Ray,
OK, I did it. It does sound much better. I will need you to come over and help me figure out how to quiet it down a little more. The water flows into the top of my sump and falls a ways b/f it hits the water, so its noisy, too. The skimmer cannot handle a higher water level in the sump. But this stand did make a huge difference.

I used the Stockman design too. Works like a dream, and makes almost no noise. Took about 5-10 minutes to put together, and you can easily tear it down if you need to.

The first Durso that I have, I bought it from Ken Stockman. It end up costing around $24 for one pipe. I end up still having to drill my own hole.
